Getting active
Physical activity helps keep your blood glucose levels at a healthy level, since exercise usually lowers it. And people are normally diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while young, so they’re often at an active stage of life. This bodes well for your body’s well-being.
But although exercise helps your health, you do need to take a few precautions. Before you head off to the gym or out for a jog each day, you’ll test your blood sugar. This will help you decide whether to cut back on your next dose of insulin, or have a snack so your blood glucose doesn’t drop. You’ll also pack emergency O.J. or glucose tablets in case of low blood sugar while you’re active.
